Success Story: Deedra

Picture
I started the business as an independent author then transitioned to being an editor. The idea to be an editor came when a fellow author reached out for help with her manuscript.
Her desire for affordable editing services inspired me to open Deedra Nichole Editing. My social media connections as well as being able to network are key to developing the editing business and growing my readership. Maintaining excellence, while networking with professionals who provide quality insights into the business of writing, helped me build my strengths and achieve my goals.

The challenge to create quality written works inspire me to pursue my career as an editor. Breaking into the writing industry is one of the challenges of starting an editing business. The biggest challenge is to build a credible profile in the writing world with my peers.

When I first started in the Ticket to Work program, I researched many options to transition back into the workforce. I was a hobby writer for several years but had not profited from my hobby writing. My desire to turn my hobby writing into a profitable business led me to neba. My research showed neba to be a good fit for my desired profession.

Since working with nrba, my knowledge of the writing industry has increased. Learning how to run a business gave me the confidence to grow as my company.  neba helped me the possibilities for my business and to set goals that are attainable.

Deedra Nichole Editing, as a resource for independent writers, is well on the way to being a successful editing house. In three years, I have edited the works of many successful authors and created stable income to support my family.

My writing career is going strong, and I have developed new marketing strategies using connections forged internationally through social media. 2019 will see a rise in non-fiction publications by me; 2020 will focus on my fiction writing. The next three years will be a growth balance of my writing and editing the works of my peers.

April Mahoney, host of On the Edge with April Mahoney podcast, featured me as a 2018 podcast guest.  In 2019, I received a certification of recognition for “most likes” for 2018 on her podcast.
