Interview Tips with Dreya K.

Watching our participants grow and succeed in the workplace and out of it, is why we do what we do here at neba. Meet Dreya K!. She began working with us through DTA and was kind enough to share about her experience. She also put together this video with her interview tips!

“I began the neba works program in August of 2022. I was just beginning to get my life back on track after an divorce. The divorce left me homeless with two kids, all I had was a working vehicle. I knew that despite any obstacles I would face, I would let my ambition motivate me into creating a life where no one could ever put me in a place of dependency again. That included the system. So I was overjoyed to find out about neba Works and what they had to offer. They helped me gain my certification as a Scrum Master. I used to think these programs didn't care about us but I was wrong. They care as long as you care. Due to me becoming a Scrum Master I now hold a full-time permanent position in Tech. That wasn't all though, I expressed my fear of not being able to return to school due to an outstanding bill. They paid it, I just finished Fall 2 of 2022 with straight A's. None of my accomplishments in 4-5 months (everyone's time frame varies)  would have been possible if it weren't for the hard work and dedication of Meghan and the neba Works program. They believed in me because they saw I believed in myself. They supported me because they knew my desire to support myself. I know it's scary and sometimes it may feel like staying dependent on the system benefits you more, you're faced with obstacles like child care but it is possible to live the life you dream of. Barrier by Barrier, wall by wall if you work hard and believe in yourself you will succeed. You will have more to provide your family than what any state benefits can offer. It's programs like neba Works that help you accomplish these goals in breaking these obstacles down. Don't be afraid to sacrifice or be uncomfortable, I had to constantly remind myself that better days were coming. That, they did because I am living it, right here today. I write this while still in the shelter, still required to turn in my paystubs and check in. But just like I hope for you, I believe in my plan and I stick to it, so like this part of the timeline became reality the part of my own housing and no more being dependent on the system comes next. One brick at a time, one step at a time. My two girls will have a life I dreamed of as a child. I won't give up, there is nothing I can not do if I just keep believing. I am grateful but never confused that if not for neba Works it wouldn't have been possible. It's never too late to start over. Never be afraid to redefine yourself. Just believe and the rest of the world will follow. Thank you Meghan, thank you to all the staff at neba works.
