The NEBA Business Development
Center (BDC) provides an innovative approach to assisting
individuals with disabilities and/or employment barriers in
starting their own business. The BDC offers entrepreneurial
training necessary to the development of a business concept, the
writing of a Senior Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) reviewed
business plan and the implementation of a business. Individuals
are accepted into the BDC based on the feasibility of their
business concept and their commitment to the program’s
requirements.

The BDC mentors participants
in the day-to-day operation of their new business venture. This
support, along with support from friends and family, empowers
participants to pursue their dream. BDC program participants
network with other entrepreneurs in a team-supported environment
and have direct access to SCORE and the Small Business
Administration.
Individuals can complete a
business plan working directly with a BDC instructor or through
the BDC’s online program. If you are interested in writing a
business plan with the support of the Business Development
Center you will need access to a computer and have an e-mail
address. Your computer must be able to create word processing
and spreadsheet work compatible with Microsoft Office and Google
Docs. Your business plan must be completed within 60 hours or
six months, whichever comes first.
The BDC program covers the
following business plan components:
-
Three year projection of
operating costs and revenue
-
Marketing plan to
position product/service in the appropriate markets
-
SCORE review of the
completed business plan
